WELCOME TO ARYA MONK
Sidrabong” is now known as Arya Tea Estate. ( Since- 1885 ) The legendry garden still preserves the house in which the monks dwelled back in the 1800s.

As the legend goes, a monk who was believed to possess extraordinary spiritual powers chanced upon a hill and was left speechless by its purity. He looked all around and felt a sense of elation, for what he saw was a stunning expanse of beautiful hills being nurtured and caressed by the freshness of the wind.

More importantly, it made him realize that he was about to give shape to what had for long been brewing in his mind- a unique flavor of tea that would have no parallel anywhere else in the world. The monk was already revered for his Chinese seed development skills, and here he was- at gates of Paradise, about to discover a flavor divine. He along with his fellow monks, set about with experimental plantations. They studied in great detail the nature of soil, topography and the weather pattern for years till the right conditions were identified. The hard work yielded rich results as the flavor surpassed their expectations. Hence was born an exceptional brew-inimitable and unmatched till today.

The “Sidrabong” gardens were thus established by the monks in the 19th century and the legendary formula was passed over, giving us “Arya Monk” Bio Organic Certified Darjeeling Tea.

HERE IS HOW TEA IS PRODUCED AT ARYA TEA ESTATE
Plucking

Plucking is an art. The quality of raw tea leaf depends a great deal on the way it is plucked.

The pluckers at Arya Tea Estate represent a lineage of skilled women who have been providing their valuable services for generations.

Withering

Fresh green leaf after the eradication of foreign matter is spread across ‘withering troughs’. Air is made to pass from under the leaves as they wither. The objective of withering is to free the green leaves from moisture and prepare them to withstand the pressure of being rolled without breaking up.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rolling

Rolling helps expose the sap to the oxygen in the air, besides twisting the leaf characteristically.

The cell sap is enriched with tannin, caffeine, protein and other substances which provide the characteristic colour to the tea liquor during infusion
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fermentation

The leaves after being rolled are spread on to fermenting beds and left for varying periods as may be necessary for the type of manufacture.

Proper fermentation alters the color of the leaf to coppery and gives off the characteristic aroma after the leaves react with each other when being rolled.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Drying

After fermentation, the leaves are dried in a drying machine.

The object is to arrest fermentation and slowly dessicate the leaf in a way to exact moisture and also prevent the tea from being scorched.

Sorting & Packing

Sorting machines help sort the tea into different grades. Tea is passed over wire meshes that are fitted on to the machines. These wire meshes are of various sizes, hence the whole leaf, broken leaf. fannings and dust grades collect at different areas.

The different grades of tea are packed into plywood chests/paper sacks/consumer packs that are lined with aluminum foil.
